Dreaming of “Paris Haute Couture” Exhibit

couture03

Probably one of the most over-used and misused terms in fashion these days is “haute couture,” which translates to “high sewing” meaning that it is made with the finest fabrics, carefully sewn by hand, and has incredible attention to detail.  With ready-to-wear pieces now costing sometimes upwards of thousands, it is easy to see where the confusion could come in.

Thankfully the Hôtel de Ville in Paris has created the exhibit, “Paris Haute Couture,” with help from sponsor Swarovski, who has been helping couture pieces dazzle since they were created to show what haute couture truly means.

The exhibit, which runs through July 6, 2013, shows the history of haute couture through video and photos as well to help viewers understand the complete process of creating the impecable garments.  And of course there are over 100 dresses, from well and lesser-known designers, to make you truly appreciate these works of art.

“A darling pink taffeta dress from Yves Saint Laurent’s short tenure at Dior is there, alongside the work of the house’s namesake and its last designer, John Galliano. And it’s interesting to compare the Chanel skirt suits—one by Coco Chanel, the other by Karl Lagerfeld—next to each other. There are plenty of gowns from lesser-known designers as well, offering a bit of surprise alongside the standards.” -Fashionista

If you’re like me and most likely won’t make it to Paris in time to see this incredible exhibit, then head over to Fashionista to see their incredible slideshow complete with videos and photos from the exhibit.  It will leave you saying J’adore haute couture!

My Little Karl Lagerfeld…Oh Em Gee.

We were recently introduced to artist Mari Kasurinen‘s My Little Karl and her brilliant My Little Pop Icon Series by one of our favorite bloggers, Caviar Taste, when we fell madly in love, head over heels and dove right in to her site to see how much more we could find…turns out My Little Karl is just one of two in the artist’s fashion designer series, the other being the brilliant Vivienne Westwood – so we are writing today to plead with her – WE WANT MORE!  We’re thinking Marc Jacobs in his lace Met Gala getup ensemble is a no brainer…what do you think?

Controversial Karl Calls Adele “A Little Too Fat”

Karl Lagerfeld is a man who can obviously afford to not care if he pisses anyone off or not. His latest comments have left many in the fashion world at a loss for words when the claws came out in a display of  possibly the best example of a backhanded compliment to date. Speaking to Metro Paris, he said, “The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.” Um…Karl… What are you talking about? Adele is GORGEOUS.

Something tells me she isn’t exactly crying herself to sleep over the comments.

Lagerfeld went on to comment on MIA’s now infamous stunt at the Superbowl when she flipped off the camera (ya know, being the “badass” she is and all)

“Nowadays people give the middle finger quite quickly—it’s not the best behavior. Everybody does that, what’s new about that? It’s just become a bad habit. People in magazines are 50 percent bimbo and 50 percent pregnant women.”

Can someone please tell me what that even means…

I feel like I should be offended or pregnant - I don’t even know
