After the controversial departure of John Galliano from Dior, the fashion world was left with nothing but rumors of who was to take over designing for the iconic name. Since Galiano left, the role had been temporarily filled by long time studiohead Bill Gaytten – who also designs for Galliano’s namesake collection. It wasn’t long before everyone’s attention fell on Raf Simons, who until recently had been the creative director of Jil Sander while also designing his own collections ‘Raf by Raf Simons’ and ‘Raf Simons’. For months many wondered the future of Simons when names such as Yves Saint Laurent were listed as trying to court the successful Belgian designer and now it’s FINALLY been officially announced that he will be taking over the creative director position of Dior. “The first time I heard about the Dior position,” Simons told the Times‘ Cathy Horyn, “I thought, ‘This feels right.’”
